HP Pavilion 15-au023cl
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

I have the HP Pavilion 15-au023cl laptop.  My data transfer speeds through USB 3.0 do not ever exceed 50 Mbps.  Most of the time the transfer rate will idle between 28 - 32 Mbps.  I am running Windows 10 Home that came pre-installed on the laptop.  My laptop specs indicate I have 2 USB 3.0 ports and 1 USB 2.0 port.  I have tested both ports that are marked "ss" next to them, and they produce the same results.  Since I purchased my laptop, I have never experienced transfer speeds via USB 3.0 above 50Mbps.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled the USB drivers via the device manager.  I have rebooted to allow the reinstallation of the drivers to take place as well as using the "scan for new hardware changes" option in device manager.  Both of these methods have not corrected the problem.  I have tested multiple USB 3.0 devices to connect to my laptop to ensure the problem was not specific to one device.  All devices have experienced the same slow data speed transfers rate.  Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Best regards,

Ryan M.

Hi @RexCM85,

Welcome to the HP Forums!

It is a great way to engage, post questions and find resolutions by working with specialists in the HP community.

I reviewed your post and I understand that copy speed is slow on the USB 3.0 ports.

I’d love to help!

In order that I may provide you with an accurate solution, I will need a few more details.

  • When was the last time the computer was working fine?
  • Have you made any software or hardware changes on the computer?
  • Have you performed any troubleshooting steps before posting?

Meanwhile, follow below steps and check if it helps.

I would suggest you turn off the Auto tuning feature and then try to transfer the files.

Follow these steps to turn off Auto-tuning:

  1. Press Windows key + X and select Command Prompt(Admin).
  2. Type “netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled” and press Enter.
  3. Now try to transfer the files and check the data transfer speed.
  4. Again go to Command Prompt(Admin) and type “netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=normal” and press Enter.
  5. This will turn on the Autotuning again.

Let me know how it works and you have a good day ahead.

To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help. If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles.

Take care!

Hello,

  • When was the last time the computer was working fine?  - The issue has been present since I purchased the laptop.
  • Have you made any software or hardware changes on the computer?  - No changes have been made.
  • Have you performed any troubleshooting steps before posting?   Yes.  As outlined in my original message.

I have performed the steps to disable Auto Tuning and retested.  Sadly, I am still getting the same speeds as before.

Hello,

I should add that the write speed when transferring data from the device via USB 3.0 to the laptop is around 100mbps.  The slow data transfer appears to only happen when writing back from the laptop to the USB 3.0 device.  I have tested same devices on the exact same laptop as I purchased two of these at the same time.  Same issue. Write speed from laptop to USB 3.0 device never exceeds 50mbps.

Hey Thank you The_Fossette for the reply but yet speed of transfer (let me clarify laptop to pendrive) is same both ways.
