Microsoft Windows 11

Hi, I have a HP ZBook Firefly 14 G11 and no matter what I try in the UEFI and Windows settings I am not able to disable Smart Charging. This leads to the situation that my notebook goes into some sort of standby which disconnects my VPN and throws me out of the company network even though my charger and docking station provides enough power. Great. I do not need Smart Charging. I do not want Smart Charging. I do not understand why there is no setting in the UEFI system that says "Enable Smart Charging" with a checkbox. I am trying to disable this crap for quite some time now. So long story short: I turned my notebook over today, opened the chassis and disconnected the battery. And would you look at that: It works! No more (Not so) Smart Charging!

Great Job HP, no seriously: Well done. This is my last HP, be sure of that.

Hello,
Good day. Thank you for reaching out to the Hp community. I would be delighted to assist you. Superb description and terrific troubleshooting. Kudos to you for that.

It seems you are referring to the HP ZBook Firefly 14 G11 model. To manage your battery health and charging preferences on this device, HP offers features like the HP Battery Health Manager and HP Intelligent Charging. These settings are designed to optimize your battery health over time.

While "Smart Charging" specifically is not detailed explicitly, HP provides a set of options for managing battery health, which can influence charging behavior:

  1. Let HP Manage My Battery Health: Balances battery runtime and health.
  2. Maximize Battery Health Management: Limits maximum charge to 80% for better long-term health.
  3. Minimize Battery Health Management: Allows charging to full capacity for users who need maximum runtime on battery power.

These settings can be adjusted through the HP Battery Health Manager, typically found in the BIOS settings of the device. If you wish to disable certain automatic charging features, you would need to select the option that fits your preference from the settings available in the Battery Health Manager.
