I've had my printer for over a year with no problems installing the software or using the printer. I'm connected wirelessly. Last week, the scanner lost connection to computer, so I tried numerous steps including uninstalling and reinstalling the software. And yes, I'm using the latest full featured version. When I install the software, it skips the step of looking for and connecting to my printer on the network, and just goes to the installation stage. It installs all 4 applications (Basic Drivers, I.R.I.S, HP Update, and HP Help), and says installation is complete. But my printer is not connected to my computer, and when I try to start over by deleting the newly installe software, none of the applications is in the list of applications that can be deleted. I upgraded the firmware to the latest version around the time this started happening. Can this be the cause of the problem, and if yes, what do I do? I restored factory defaults, but that was no help.
I've tried unplugging the printer for a minute, I've turning off the printer, I tried installing with all startup programs and non-microsoft services disabled, and with the firewall (Norton) turned off. I've also rerun the network wizard, and I've tried using a static IP address. I've also tried installing from Safe Mode with network connection.
I'm thinking that it is not a printer problem, and that the problem is that something on my computer is preventing a proper install.

I finally got the problem figured out after a day and a half. The Windows and Iobit program uninstallers did not see any of the 4 programs that had previously been installed. I then downloaded Revo Uninstaller, and it was able to locate and delete all 4 programs and then scan the registry and delete all values that were associated with the 4 programs. Once I was able to do this complete uninstall, I was able to reinstall the program flawlessly. Phew
