Spectre x360 13" (2019) issues. [OVERHEATING] [SLEEP]

Hi, everyone!

I've been using spectre x360 13" (2019) for two weeks now and I experienced 2 major issues.

1, First one is after you put this laptop to sleep, there's NO WAY you can wake it up.
It's not responding to any button press(including the power button), touchpad or touch display input. All I got is a black a screen. I was searching for hours, tried different methods to solve the problem but none of them worked.
The 'power management' tab is somehow missing from Device manager -> keyboard or mouse device and I couldn't find
any solution that could make it appear.
Methods I tried:
- hard(forced) reset
- updating BIOS
- disabling hibernation
- disabling fast start-up
- enabling wake-up timers (Advanced power plan settings)
- PCI Express Link State Power management: OFF (Advanced power plan settings)
- resetting power plan settings to default

2, The worse issue, that is really bugging me, is the overheating. It's nice that HP developed the Command Center,
'Performance' mode comes really handy for compiling and running programs/projects, CPU really is significantly faster
BUT it usually operates above 90°C that is not okay. The first week I ran some benchmark tests to see how it
performs, the proccess took about 5 mins and under 'Performance' mode the fans weren't even operating
for 4 MINUTES when the CPU was constantly above 96°C 😮 . Later I did another test where 3 cores reached 99°C
I was so afraid of reaching junction temperature I wanted to terminate it but just before I could exit, the laptop
turned off and showed error message about too high temperature (I guess it was the BIOS that killed the process).
The problem isn't that the CPU runs hot under load the real problem is it didn't 'sensed' the heat in time and
didn't even turn on the fans in time. As I think what should happen: faster CPU -> higher temp -> faster fans, but what I
experienced is faster CPU -> higher temp -> fans are slow or OFF. The Performance thermal profile says:
"fan speed will increase to cool the device" NOT "fans won't start until it's too late".

Comfort profile is fine CPU doesn't go above 50°C but it holds back the performance too. Usually I use this profile
for simple tasks where extra CPU performance is not necessary.

I can live with the first issue it is only annoying but If you know a solution I haven't tried let me know please :).
(Not even sure if it's windows or HP related as I was searching for the solution saw a lot of same issue with different laptops.)

The reason why I specified the thermal issue is that I believe (as Software developer) it could be fixed with an
update(increasing fan speed) and I don't expect anyone to show me a quick solution because I already tried different
methods like: thermal solutions (except contacting support agent yet).

Btw overall it's a really nice laptop except these two problems I have nothing to complain about.

I hope this feedback does reach HP developers who can come up with a thermal solutions soon.

Nevertheless if anybody does have any idea/solution for any issue listed above I'd appreciate it :).

@meromisi,

I reviewed your post and I understand that the computer is overheating, and you are facing issues with the sleep mode as well.

I see that you have followed all the relevant steps and we can try enabling the “Fan Always on” option in the BIOS but I suggest you perform a reset on the computer as you are facing issues with sleep mode as well and check if it helps.

Follow the steps in the below article to perform a reset on the computer.

Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

@The_Fossette,

thank you for your reply, I appreciate it!

for overheating: I've met with "fan always on" setting already, but didn't notice any difference between the two modes. Is it possible that the fans operate on a low speed that I can't hear them? Btw, that behavior of the fans, that I described, only happens when it is on performance mode so I stopped using it. HP recommended profile is fine too fans are mostly active when CPU's temp is above 70°C (sometimes it still reaches 80+°C), I just hope this temp isn't harmful for other components inside the laptop.

I'm going to perform a reset soon I just have a lot of installations I have to create a back-up too and I'll be back with the result.

Thanks again for your reply!

Cheers.

@The_Fossette,

Here I am as I promised. System reset was successful, it resolved the sleeping issue now it works fine!

I just ran two cinebench benchmark tests with 'HP recommended' and 'Performance' thermal profile, they performed exactly the same, CPU's temp wasn't higher than 69°C that I'm really happy for 😁. [NOT +97°C with no active fan like earlier] Although CPU didn't run faster than 1,5GHz. I'm not sure but I guess the system reset solved the thermal problem too.

Thank you for your advice! 🙂

Have a nice day!
