Hi, I’m using an HP Envy x360 16-inch (Intel Ultra 155U + Arc GPU).
After upgrading to BIOS F.05, I’ve been experiencing frequent stability issues: the laptop sometimes turns off suddenly under load, and performance is consistently throttled.
Before this BIOS update, the system was stable and ran workloads without such abrupt shutdowns.
I would like to downgrade to the previous BIOS version F.04 to restore system stability. Could someone guide me on how to safely obtain the older BIOS version? It isn't available in HP drivers updates website. Pls help.

@Unknown54321, You’re right, HP usually only hosts the latest BIOS version on the support site, and older versions like F.04 may not be listed for download if they’ve been replaced for stability or security reasons. Downgrading BIOS is also restricted on some models to prevent potential system issues.
Here are a couple of things you can try in the meantime:
Run HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI): Restart your laptop, press Esc repeatedly, then F2, and run a full system test. This will check if the shutdowns are being triggered by hardware stress.
Update drivers & chipset: Sometimes new BIOS needs updated Intel/Arc drivers. Head to Intel’s driver support assistant and update chipset + GPU drivers.
Hope this helps!
Take care, and have an amazing day!

@Unknown54321, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding BIOS update!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
If you are experiencing stability issues after updating your HP Envy x360 16-inch to BIOS version F.05 and wish to downgrade to a previous version (F.04) to improve performance and stability, it's important to understand that downgrading BIOS can be complex and is not always supported or recommended by HP.
Here are some steps you can take:
Check HP's Support Site: Visit the HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads for your specific product model to see if the previous BIOS version is available for download.
Consider Resetting BIOS Settings: Before attempting a downgrade, try resetting the BIOS settings to their default values. This often resolves stability issues:
- Restart your computer.
- Access the Computer Setup (F10) Utility by pressing F10 during startup.
- Navigate to the Main menu and select "Restore Defaults".
Hope this helps!
Take care, and have an amazing day!

Hello @Zoey7886, I had tried resetting the settings in the BIOS but I am still facing severe performance lost and thermal throttling still causing instabilities. I had checked for the previous BIOS update F.04 but isn't available in HP's website. It would be helpful to provide the older bios file to fix this stability issue. Thankyou
