Hi @Mal_09,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Fixing a Blue Screen of Death (BSoD) on a Windows 7 HP laptop can be challenging but here are some steps you can try to troubleshoot and resolve the issue.
Restart Your Computer: Sometimes a simple restart can resolve the issue. If the BSoD doesn't appear again, it might have been caused by a temporary glitch.
Check for Windows Updates: Ensure that your Windows 7 operating system is up-to-date. Sometimes, Microsoft releases patches and updates to fix system issues that could be causing the BSoD.
Check for Driver Updates: Outdated or incompatible drivers can often cause BSoD errors. Go to the HP website and check for driver updates for your specific laptop model. Make sure to update graphics drivers, chipset drivers, and any other relevant drivers.
Run System File Checker (SFC) and Check Disk (CHKDSK):
- Open Command Prompt as an administrator.
- Type "sfc /scannow" and press Enter. This command will scan and repair any corrupted system files.
- After SFC completes, run "chkdsk /f /r" to check and repair disk errors. You may need to restart your computer to allow CHKDSK to run before Windows starts.
Check for Malware: Malware infections can also cause BSoD errors. Run a full system scan using a reputable antivirus or antimalware software to check for and remove any malware.
Check Hardware Components: Faulty hardware such as RAM, hard drive, or overheating issues can also cause BSoD errors. You can try:
- Reseating RAM modules.
- Running a diagnostic test on your hard drive using HP's built-in diagnostic tool or third-party software.
- Ensuring proper ventilation and cooling to prevent overheating.
Restore System to a Previous State: If the BSoD started occurring recently, you can try using System Restore to revert your system to a previous state when it was working fine.
Perform a Clean Windows Installation: If none of the above steps work, you may need to perform a clean installation of Windows 7. Ensure you back up your important files before proceeding with this step.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
