Hi @Posh3,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I'm sorry you're dealing with this. A laptop stuck in Automatic Repair mode can be incredibly frustrating, especially when it drags on for hours. Let's walk through the steps to recover your HP laptop and get you back up and running.

1. Restart Your Laptop

  • Press and hold the power button until your laptop turns off.
  • Wait a few seconds, then press the power button again to turn it on

2. Boot into Safe Mode

  • Restart your laptop.
  • When you see the Windows logo, press and hold the power button to force a shutdown. Repeat this process 2-3 times until you see the "Preparing Automatic Repair" screen.
  • Select Advanced options > Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Settings > Restart.
  • After your laptop restarts, select 4 or F4 to start in Safe Mode.

3. Perform a System Restore

  • From the Choose an option screen, select Troubleshoot > Advanced options > System Restore.
  • Follow the prompts to restore your system to an earlier point.

4. Run Startup Repair

  • From the Choose an option screen, select Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Repair.

5. Check Disk for Errors

  • From the Choose an option screen, select Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Command Prompt.
  • In the Command Prompt window, type chkdsk /f /r and press Enter.

6. Reset Your Laptop

  • From the Choose an option screen, select Troubleshoot > Reset this PC and follow the instructions.

7. Run Hardware Diagnostics

  • Restart your laptop and press F2 repeatedly to enter the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics.
  • Run extensive tests on your hard drive and memory, and let us know the result.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
