My laptop has been on a loop of "Repairing disk errors. This might take over an hour to complete." & "Preparing Automatic Repair" & Diagnosing your PC" For about 1 hour and a half.
Every once in a while it looks as if a window might pop up but it quickly disappears.
This has been happening since I tried to Factory Reset it & it shut off after 1% . I just need help on how to go back to Factory resetting it, I was hoping to give this PC to my boyfriend this weekend.
Please help!!

Hi @EsmeVald,
Good Day. Thank you for reaching out to the HP community. I understand that you have issues with the notebook going in a loop and not booting. I’ll be glad to assist you here. Glorious description and splendid diagnosis of the issue before posting. Kudos to you for that and it is greatly appreciated. 🙂
For better clarity and to assist you correctly I would require more information regarding this.
- Did you try to run hardware diagnostics on the computer?
- Please provide the operating system of the computer to assist you better.
- For starters please run complete hardware diagnostics on the computer assuming that the computer runs Windows 8 or Windows 10 from this link: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c03467259 to eliminate hardware issues.
- Please run both the extensive tests and component tests. It takes roughly two hours to run depending on the hard drive size. If any component fails please make a note of the failure code.
- If it fails you need to replace the hard drive or the failed component or get the computer serviced by contacting HP phone support via this link: www.hp.com/contacthp/ please select the country and follow the on-screen instructions. It services and repairs could be fee-based as the computer may not be in warranty.
- If it is an older computer (more than 3 years old repair options may not be available with HP. Then consult a local technician of your choice to get it fixed. This is because the actual manufacturers of the components may not be supplying the parts to HP anymore and hence repair options may not be available.)
- If diagnostics pass, then please follow this link: https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-envy-m4-1100-notebook-pc-series/5330555/model/5360160/docume... for system recovery and select the most appropriate option based on the computer model and year.
- There is an associated video for it also on how to perform a recovery to factory settings.
- If the F11 recovery partition does not work, please contact HP phone support from the same link mentioned above and run the recovery using recovery media. The recovery link also shows you how to run the recovery using HP recovery media.
Please perform all these steps patiently as it is critical to resolving the issue. The trick is to remain patient, please. Please note that I am not overloading you with a lot of troubleshooting steps. Instead, just like you, I am eager to ensure that the problem gets resolved. So I am providing you with more resources and information at your disposal to deal with the situation better.
Hope this helps. Let me know how this goes. I genuinely hope the issue gets resolved without hassles and the unit works great. 🙂 Please reach out for any issues and I'll be there to assist you. 🙂
To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help. If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles. :)Take care now and have a splendid week ahead. 🙂
