I'm trying to install updates using the HP Support Assistant. I've noticed that some of the updates will pop up a dialog box that says:
"A separate installer has launched. You may need to perform necessary actions to complete the installation. Some installers may not be visible, please be patient for it to finish."
It has happened with the "ASMedia eXtensible Host Controller (xHCI) Driver" and "Conexant HD Audio Driver 2015", and there are several other updates that I need to install and they might do it too. Each time, the dialog box appears and just sits there spinning for over 30 minutes. Finally it will pop up another dialog box that says:
"Please confirm the installation results to continue:
o Installation was successful
o Installation failed
o I don't know"
Since I have no idea what happened (I didn't see any indication of success or failure), I have to pick "I don't know". Then it says that the install failed, and it displays the list of updates again. Those updates that popped up the dialog box are still in the list, so they never got installed. How can I install them if HP Support Assistant can't do it?

I was stumped by this same problem for a couple days and after trying a bunch of things (uninstall/ reinstall etc. etc.) it occurred to me I was executing HP Support Assistant through my everyday user account on my PC (a good security practice) and not an account with Administrator privileges. On Windows 10 I'm used to having my everyday user account ask me for an administrator password when trying to do something that requires those privleges. It occurred to me that HP Support Assistant wasn't doing that. So I tried logging out and logging back in with my Administrator account and retrying updates in HP Support Assistant and problem was solved. Now within a few moments of the message appearing that a seperate installer is being launched their popups to proceed, agree to terms, etc. will follow. At least this is what hung up the updates in my case.
