HP Envy 15T
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

I have a HP Envy 15 T that I bought a number of years back when they had a program where you could get a “semi-custom” notebook made up to your specs.

Windows 7 -64bit

[edit]

It has three USB ports, one on the right side rear and two on the left side front. The front most left side one stopped working several months back. I’ve tried several things but can’t seem to get it to start working again. It has power for when I plug in a USB light it lights up.
I have tried updating drivers, uninstalling, disable it, etc. to no avail.

Later I want to get some help on it but for now I’ve got another issue that is problematic.

I downloaded a number of Soft Paks in an effort to fix the USB port. One of the results was that all three USB ports stopped working. After several hours and several driver updates the two that were working came back by installing the latest Synaptic Touchpad Soft Pak – Version 18.1.7.16 dated 6/16/2014.

However, now I cannot disable the Touchpad on boot up when a USB mouse is used.

On the previous Touchpad software there was an option to disable is on startup if a USB mouse was found. That option is not there now.

On some Synaptic Touchpads there is an option to select a double tap to disable or enable it. That option shows on my software but is not selectable.

I must go to the Touchpad software on every boot up and disable the “Control Zone”. Next restart it requires it again.

There is no option to disable it in the Device Manager.

I’ve uninstalled it but of course on the next startup it re-installs it again.

It’s inconvenient to have to go to the device manager and disable the HP Control Zone at each startup.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
I will start another post on the USB issue when I get time.
Thanks

H K

@HermanKantz Welcome to HP Community!

I understand that you would like to disable the touchpad.

Do not worry. I will try to fix the issue.

I recommend you follow the below steps to turn off the touchpad.

Step 1: Open Settings, click Devices icon and then click Mouse & touchpad.

Step 2: Under the Touchpad section, turn off the option labeled Leave touchpad on when a mouse is connected. Please note that the option might not appear in non-precision touchpads.

If you do not see the above option, then follow the below steps.

Step 1: Open Registry Editor. To do so, open Run command by simultaneously pressing Windows + R keys, type Regedit.exe in the field followed by the enter key.

Click on the Yes button when you see the UAC prompt.

Step 2: In the Registry Editor, navigate to the following key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Synaptics\SynTPEnh

Step 3: On the right side, create a new DWORD value and rename it as DisableIntPDFeature. Finally, change its value to 33 (make sure that Hexadecimal is selected under the Base section).

Step 4: Close the Registry Editor and reboot your PC to see Disable internal pointing device when the external USB pointing device is connected option. Good luck!

Please backup the registry before trying the above steps. Refer to these documents for steps - HP PCs - Backing Up, Editing, and Restoring the Windows Registry

Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

As I noted in the pictures in the original post I have no "disable" feature. That DWORD was already there and had a hex value of 22. I changed it to 33 as per your suggestion, shut down, and re-booted Thanks for taking the time to suggest a possible fix. H K

I forgot to go to the TouchPad and manually disable it and didn't notice until I had posted that I had inadvertently touched the pad and wiped out a whole sentence. The registry editing made no difference at all.

@HermanKantz

Please create a new user account and check for the issue.

Please refer to the following link to create a new user.

If the issue still persists, perform the system restore.

Have a nice day!!

Thank you once again for your input.

I have other users and all have this issue.

When it comes to he "select user" splash screen the touch pad is already activated even though a USB mouse is attached.

System Restore is a "Sledge Hammer" fix (that may or may not OCCASIONALLY work).

If I could get the original Synaptic software / drivers that came on it and install that the issue would be resolved.

However, that doesn't seem to be available anywhere.

Thanks again

@HermanKantz

I understand your concerns.

Please update Windows Updates and check.

1) In the search box, type, and open Windows Updates.

2) Check for updates.

3) If the updates are available, click on install and restart the computer.

Have a nice day!!

https://i.vgy.me/iP6Bda.jpg Thank you again for your input. As I've mentioned a couple of times this issues was brought about by installing the LATEST drivers. It's the latest drivers which CAUSED the problem. Cheers H K
