I reviewed your post and I understand that you are facing issues with the touchpad on your computer.
Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.
I recommend you uninstall the touchpad driver from device manager and then download and install the driver from the below link and check whether the issue is resolved.
https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp101501-102000/sp101991.exe
Here is how it is done.
- Type "Device Manager" into the search field to open the device manager console.
- Expand the node that represents the type of device that you want to uninstall, right-click the device entry, and click Uninstall.
- On the Confirm Device Removal dialog box, click OK to start the uninstall process.
- When the uninstall process is complete, remove the device.
NOTE: On the Confirm Device Removal dialog box, click the Delete the driver software for this device option to delete the driver package that was used for the device.
Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

I have tried your solution, but it says - "This driver is not compatible with your OS version"
I have tried to update the "PS/2 Compatible Mouse" device from the Device Manager, but after downloading the Synaptics SMBus Touchpad the following message is showed up...this window appears whenever i try to update/download the driver

I suggest you download and run the HP Support Assistant from this Link: https://www8.hp.com/us/en/campaigns/hpsupportassistant/hpsupport.html?jumpid=va_r602_us/en/any/psg/p...
HPSA will automatically search for all the latest drivers for your Notebook
-
Click My devices in the top menu, and then click Updates in the My PC or My notebook pane.
-
Click Check for updates and messages to scan for new updates.
-
Review the list of updates. Updates with a yellow information icon are recommended. Updates with a blue information icon are optional.
-
Click the update name for a description, version number, and file size.
-
Select the box next to any updates you want to install, and then click Download and install.
Also ensure Windows is up to date.
Select the Start button, and then go to Settings > Update & security > Windows Update , and select Check for updates. If Windows Update says your device is up to date, you have all the updates that are currently available
Keep me posted how it goes
Thank you and have a wonderful day 😊

The Windows is saying that best driver is already installed in your PC..
But there is a yellow indication mark on Synaptics SMBus TouchPad driver from Devices Manager
On opening it is showing : "This device is not present, is not working properly, or does not have all its drivers installed. (Code 24)"
Thank you

I recommend you run a test on the touchpad following the steps in the below article and let me know the result.
