I've noticed on some posts concerning issues with the synaptics WBDI fingerprint reader, after a previous windows update the driver for it ceased to function and it pops in and out of device manager until I disable it, this appears to be quite a persistent problem for many on here. any ideas? I haven't been able to find a solution and this particular laptop model.

cheers.

@Trob91 Greetings from the HP Community!

have you attempted a system restore to correct the issue by reverting to an earlier known working date?

While you respond to that, I have a few steps that should help:

Follow the below steps:

  • Update the BIOS
  • Enable biometric support
  • Check for Windows support
  • Clean the fingerprint reader
  • Update the device driver
  • Update the fingerprint reader software
  • Find new device drivers if you changed operating systems

For more details information: Click here

(Note: the steps are valid for both Windows 8 & Windows 10)

This worked for me....

After Windows update (1903 then 1909) found an error in device manager with error code 31. Tried downloading updated drivers from HP - no good - incompatible.

Have not found any answers on internet that worked....

So I rolled back driver to when I received laptop, and error is gone - and fingerprint reader is working. Hope this helps.
