Synaptics touchpad options missing

I'd appreciate your help with this question. Synaptic touchpad options have disappeared from HP laptop.  I have researched this issue a lot and have tried various options.  E.g., I got to Touchpad setting, and click on Additional settings -- but instead I get the Mouse options only.  Also, I follow the Device Setting route / Preferences, and the Synaptics tab I remember seeing in that dialogue box is not there. I have also Updated the Driver. I have seen this same problem posted in various forums in 2019-2020, but they did not seem to contain any solutions. E.g., I tried to download the Synaptic Pointing App in Microsoft Store, but get an error message downloading the app, saying I already have the app -- which I however cannot find on my computer.
