My Laptop having System Fan Error 90X

Hi @Omar1712,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

The System Fan Error (90X) on your HP laptop means the cooling fan is not operating correctly or the system has detected insufficient airflow. This is a critical hardware alert to prevent overheating.

Why This Happens

  • Dust buildup is blocking airflow
  • Fan failure or loose connection
  • BIOS settings or outdated firmware
  • Physical damage to the fan

Steps to Fix It

Step 1: Hard Reset

  1. Turn off the laptop.
  2. Disconnect power and remove the battery (if removable).
  3. Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
  4. Reconnect the power and turn on the laptop.

Step 2: Clean Air Vents

  • Use compressed air to blow out dust from vents and the fan area.
  • Ensure the laptop is on a hard, flat surface for proper ventilation.

Step 3: Update BIOS

Step 4: Run HP Hardware Diagnostics

  • Press Esc repeatedly at startup → F2 for System Diagnostics.
  • Run Component Test → Fan Test.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
