HP ProBook 450 G8 Notebook PC (1A888AV)

Hi HP Support,

I'm experiencing issues with TPM not being detected on my HP ProBook 450 G8 Notebook PC (11th Gen Intel Core i7-1165G7, running Windows 10 Pro 64-bit). I need to enable TPM 2.0 for BitLocker and Windows 11 compatibility, but have hit a wall.

🛠️ What I was doing and what I experienced:

  • I attempted to enable TPM from BIOS and confirm status in Windows, but TPM is not visible in Device Manager or in tpm.msc (it says: “Compatible TPM cannot be found”).

  • BIOS shows SPM (Secure Platform Management), but only displays "Current State: Not Provisioned" — no option to enable or configure TPM.

  • Ran HP BIOS Configuration Utility (BCU), HP CMSL, and HP Image Assistant; all indicate SPM is not provisioned.

  • Used BCU to try setting SPM to “Provisioned” using proper /cpwdfile, but received:
<ERROR msg="Configuration file does not start with tag 'BIOSConfig'" />.

🔁 Steps to Recreate:

  1. Boot to BIOS → Go to Security Configuration

  2. Observe that TPM options are missing; only SPM status is visible

  3. Boot into Windows → Run tpm.msc or wmic → TPM not detected

  4. Attempt to get/set BIOS values using BCU with XML → No effect

⚠️ Errors/Details:

  • BIOS: T70 Ver. 01.21.00 (latest, updated July 2025)

  • Device Manager: No Security Devices

  • wmic /namespace:\\root\CIMV2\Security\MicrosoftTpm path Win32_Tpm get * → returns “No instance(s) available”

  • Tried Get-HPDeviceDetails and CMSL commands — TPM not listed

  • BCU returns error code 12 when attempting to provision SPM

  • Tried SoftPaqs like SP81900.exe, but unsure if applicable to this model

💻 Environment:

  • OS: Windows 10 Pro 64-bit (up to date)

  • Internet: Connected via Wi-Fi, no VPN or LAN

  • No recent driver or OS reinstallation

What I need help with:

  • Does this exact model have a physical TPM chip?

  • How do I enable or provision TPM or SPM?

  • Do I need firmware updates or provisioning tools?

  • Could TPM be factory-disabled/fused off?

I’ve spent days trying everything. I'd really appreciate step-by-step guidance or a tool/firmware link that works with my model.

Thanks in advance!
