The HPUpdate popup box for Software and Drivers on my HP Spectre laptop is constantly appearing and I have tried to turn it off from the popup box, but it continues to appear.  Does anyone have any suggestions on how to eliminate this process?  Thank you!

Hi @RKHerges

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query.

You can stop the constant HP Update popup on your HP Spectre laptop by disabling the HP Update utility from startup, turning off notifications in HP Support Assistant, or uninstalling unused HP utilities. I would request you to please follow the steps:

Open Task Manager

  • HPUpdate runs as a background service and triggers popups.
  • Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc → Startup tab
  • Locate HP Update or HP Software and Drivers Update
  • Right-click → Disable
  • Restart your laptop to apply changes

Adjust HP Support Assistant Notifications

  • HP Support Assistant often generates update alerts.
  • Press Win + S → HP Support Assistant → Settings (top right)
  • Turn off Software updates notifications
  • Disable Messages from HP
  • Uncheck Show taskbar icon if desired

Turn Off Windows Notifications

  • Windows may forward HP app alerts as system notifications.
  • Go to Settings → System → Notifications
  • Scroll down to HP apps (HP Support Assistant, HP Smart)
  • Toggle notifications Off

Take care and have an amazing day!

I'm an HP Employee.
