I just purchased this computer from Best Buy, and changed the settings on the NVIDIA graphics card to be optimized for productivity rather than games, since I plan on using the power in this unit for work, not play.

Also, the interface has malfunctioned multiple times, leading to the need for a hard reboot of the unit.

I am wondering if somehow the switch in drivers did damage to the hardware???

In all honesty, no one can know for sure -- but my expectation, along with yours, is that changing display settings should NOT have any effect on hardware -- especially as the error message you're seeing is for the TouchPad.

If this were mine, I would see about returning it for a refund or exchanges.  You should not be having hardware issues with a newly purchased PC.
