My internal microphone is not working? I have downloaded latest drivers and check settings, including privacy, and ran diagnostics which all report "no issue" but when actually testing the internal microphone it does not record any sound level, it also does not function in any apps that use the microphone.

Hi @Paul_M_777,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your internal microphone on your HP Envy x360 laptop is not working despite updating drivers and checking settings, follow these troubleshooting steps to diagnose and resolve the issue:
1. Check Privacy Settings
Open Privacy Settings:
- Press Windows Key + I to open the Settings app.
- Go to Privacy.
Check Microphone Access:
- Select Microphone from the left-hand menu.
- Ensure that Allow apps to access your microphone is turned on.
- Scroll down to ensure that the specific apps you are trying to use with the microphone have access enabled.
2. Check Sound Settings
Open Sound Settings:
- Right-click the sound icon in the system tray and select Open Sound settings.
Input Device:
- Under Input, select your internal microphone from the drop-down menu.
- Click on Device properties and ensure that the microphone is enabled and the volume is turned up.
Test Microphone:
- Speak into the microphone and check if the Test your microphone bar shows any movement.
3. Check Device Manager
Open Device Manager:
- Press Windows Key + X and select Device Manager.
Locate Audio Devices:
- Expand Audio inputs and outputs.
- Right-click on your internal microphone and select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for updated driver software.
Check for Errors:
- Ensure there are no warning symbols next to your microphone or audio devices.
- If there are errors, try uninstalling the device and restarting your computer. Windows should automatically reinstall the driver.
4. Run the Windows Troubleshooter
Open Troubleshooter:
- Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot.
Run Troubleshooter:
- Click on Additional troubleshooters.
- Select Recording Audio and run the troubleshooter. Follow the prompts to detect and fix any issues with the microphone.
5. Check Audio Settings in Applications
Application Settings:
- Ensure that the microphone is selected as the input device in the specific applications you're using, such as Zoom, Skype, or Teams.
Permissions:
- Make sure that the application has permission to use the microphone.
6. Update or Reinstall Audio Drivers
Check HP Support:
- Visit the HP Support website and search for your laptop model.
- Download the latest audio drivers specifically for your laptop model.
Reinstall Drivers:
- In Device Manager, right-click on your internal microphone and select Uninstall device.
- Restart your laptop. Windows should attempt to reinstall the drivers automatically.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
