Welcome to the HP Community.
This is either a Windows resource question or a question for Microsoft Office.
Fortunately, both subjects are not mysteries and both are well supported by their own support groups.
Some general ideas...
Check to make sure that your Windows Updates are current, installed, and that there is not a "Pending" request to Restart your computer.
Windows is likely also updating your Office software as needed.
Check the Reliability Report for anything obvious - for example, failed Office updates or configurations.
If you have not done so,
Close all programs, Windows, browsers, and menus
Restart the computer and log in
If you have not done so,
If you are using a an installed version of Office software,
"Repair" your Office product.
The file itself could be the source of the problem (not obvious but it should be checked).
Open Excel without opening a particular file - this is simply a check of the Office software: "Can Excel open?"
Next,
Consider checking with the Microsoft Community and / or with Office software support.
