@Jocebeau,

Welcome to our HP Community forum!

If the FN key isn't working on your HP 15.6-inch Laptop PC 15-fd0000, here are some troubleshooting steps to hopefully fix it:

1. Check the Function Key Lock (Fn Lock):

  • Try pressing Fn + Esc

    • On some HP laptops, this toggles the function (Fn) key behavior.

    • If the Fn key was disabled, this should re-enable it.

2. Update Keyboard and Hotkey Drivers:

  1. Press Win + X → Select Device Manager.

  2. Expand Keyboards → Right-click the keyboard device → Click Update driver.

  3. Expand Human Interface Devices (HID) → Look for HID Keyboard Device.

  4. If available, update or reinstall the driver.

3. Install or Update HP Hotkey Support Driver:

HP laptops require HP Hotkey Support software for function keys to work properly.

  • Download and install the latest HP Hotkey Support driver from the HP Support website:

    • Visit HP Support

    • Look under Drivers → Keyboard, Mouse, and Input Devices.

    • Download and install HP Hotkey Support or HP System Event Utility if available.

4. Check BIOS Settings:

  1. Restart the laptop and press F10 repeatedly to enter BIOS.

  2. Navigate to Advanced > System Configuration.

  3. Look for an option like "Action Keys Mode":

    • If Enabled, function keys work without pressing Fn.

    • If Disabled, you need to press Fn + function key.

  4. Toggle the setting as needed, then Save & Exit (F10).

5. Run Windows Keyboard Troubleshooter:

  1. Press Win + I → Go to Update & Security.

  2. Select TroubleshootAdditional troubleshooters.

  3. Click KeyboardRun the troubleshooter.

After trying these steps, the Fn key should work. If not, please let me know!

Kind Regards,

Usually installing this software will get the Fn keys to work as long as your notebook's graphics and audio drivers are installed and working properly.
