ProBook 470 G5
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have a 470 G5 with Win10 64Bit Professional.  I purchased a G2 Thunderbolt dock.  It isn't charging.  When I looked at he USB-C information, it states that Thunderbolt is not supported.  Is there a driver to download that will enable the Thunderbolt support?

Hello @RRosburg,

Is the dock this one -> https://support.hp.com/ca-en/document/c05913756

Unfortunately, HP has some really weird limitations with USB-C ports and limits what each USB-C port can actually do. Furthermore, it's been known on the forum that a lot of HP laptops that don't use a discrete USB-C charger don't support USB-C charging at all.

I can see on your computer's user guide that it has its own barrel charging port. I can recommend you an HP USB-C hub that is confirmed to be compatible with HP but it probably won't have passthrough charging.

If you do want a recommendation, a specific model/product number would be appreciated. (Please do not post serial numbers on the HP Support Forum)

Information on how to find a laptop's model/product number is detailed in this HP document.

Sorry to say but you're out of luck in charging your computer through USB-C. If you want, you can contact HP and see what they have to say:

Hello @RRosburg,

Unfortunately, I was unable to find any information to support that your computer has a Thunderbolt 3 port. Therefore, the USB-C port on your computer has limited functionality and does not allow charging.

This is a hardware limitation, not software.

Hope this helps,

Eddy

Thanks.  I had searched and it stated the 470 was compatable with the dock.  Any other ways to work around and use the docking station?

Looking at the specs of the G2 dock, it states the output cable is USB-C.  Any ideas why it would not charge my laptop?
