Hello, so I’ve been struggling to get my keyboard and touchpad to work on my laptop for a while now. For a while I could just restart my laptop and it would eventually start working again but now that doesn’t work anymore. I tried a bunch of things like updating the drivers. Uninstalling the drivers and reinstalling. Going into the EUFI and loading default bios startup. None of this worked so I factory reset my laptop. When I factory reset my laptop the keyboard and touchpad started working again until I restarted my laptop now it’s not working again. I was on windows 11 before the factory reset now I’m on windows 10 home. My OS build is 16299.309. It’s an HP Envy x360. I don’t believe it’s a hardware issue since the touchpad and keyboard work in safe mode and also worked when I factory reset.

Hi @Collins241

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I understand how frustrating it must feel when the keyboard and touchpad stop responding after all the effort you’ve already put in. You’ve done a lot of thorough troubleshooting—driver reinstalls, BIOS defaults, and even a factory reset—so I truly appreciate the persistence and care you’ve shown.

Since the devices work in Safe Mode and briefly after reset, this points strongly to a driver or compatibility layer issue rather than hardware failure. Let’s focus on steps that can restore stable functionality.

Here are the steps you can try:

Check Device Manager

  • Press Windows + X and select Device Manager.
  • Expand “Keyboards” and “Mice and other pointing devices.”
  • If you see “HID Keyboard Device” or “Synaptics/Precision Touchpad,” right‑click and uninstall each, then restart. Windows should reinstall them automatically.

Install HP Drivers for Your Model

  • Visit the HP Drivers and Software page:
    https://support.hp.com/in-en/drivers
  • Enter your model: HP Envy x360.
  • Select Windows 10 (64‑bit).
  • Download and install the latest “Driver-Keyboard, Mouse and Input Devices” package.
  • Restart after installation.

Update Chipset Drivers

  • On the same page, under “Driver-Chipset,” download and install the Intel chipset drivers.
  • Restart the laptop. This ensures the system properly communicates with input devices.

Windows Updates

  • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.
  • Install all available updates, including optional driver updates.

Test in Clean Boot

  • Press Windows + R, type msconfig, and press Enter.
  • Under the Services tab, check “Hide all Microsoft services,” then click “Disable all.”
  • Under Startup, open Task Manager and disable all startup items.
  • Restart the laptop.
  • If the keyboard and touchpad work here, a third‑party program may be interfering.

HP Support Assistant

You’ve already shown great patience and determination. Once the correct drivers and chipset updates are in place, the keyboard and touchpad should respond consistently, bringing back the smooth and natural feel of your Envy x360.
