Something happened to my computer. When I double-click an Edge icon on the desktop the Edge does not open and on the left corner of the Edge icon pops up a small blue box with a check mark. I can open the Edge only with a right-click then click Open. The same way I can open a folder and file in File Explorer. I don’t know how to get back to double-click.
I submitted my complaint to the Windows Forum, they tried but could not help me and suggested ‘…the best option would be to go to the support page for your laptop on the manufacturers website to donwlaod and re-install (not update) the version of touchpad drivers they provide.’

Hi @borzol,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand the issue you're experiencing could be due to a touchpad setting or driver issue.
Here's how you can troubleshoot and resolve it:
1. Check Touchpad Settings
Adjust the Double-Click Speed:
- Press Windows + I to open Settings.
- Go to Bluetooth & Devices > Touchpad.
- Scroll down and find Additional Settings (this may take you to the old control panel interface).
- In the Mouse Properties window, under the Buttons tab, there will be a Double-click speed section. Adjust the slider to make it slower and test double-clicking on an icon.
Ensure Tap-to-Click is Enabled:
- Open Settings again.
- Go to Bluetooth & Devices > Touchpad.
- Ensure Tap with two fingers to right-click or similar settings aren't causing interference.
- Try enabling Tap with a single finger to click if it’s not already on.
2. Reinstall Touchpad Drivers
Reinstalling the touchpad drivers might help resolve the issue:
- Visit the HP Support Page for your HP 17.3-inch Laptop PC 17-c0000 series.
- Search for your specific model, i.e., 17-c0000 (2W0J9AV).
- Navigate to the Drivers section and find the Touchpad or Synaptics/Elan driver.
- Download the driver and follow the installation instructions to reinstall it.
- Restart your laptop after installing the driver.
3. Change Folder Options
If the small blue box with a checkmark appears, you might have "Item check boxes" enabled in File Explorer:
- Open File Explorer.
- Click on the View tab.
- In the ribbon, click on Options (on the far right).
- In the Folder Options window, go to the View tab.
- Scroll down and uncheck the box that says Use check boxes to select items.
- Click Apply, then OK.
4. Test with an External Mouse
To ensure it's not a hardware issue, try connecting an external USB mouse. If double-clicking works normally with the external mouse, it indicates the issue is with the touchpad or its settings.
5. Windows Troubleshooter
Use the built-in troubleshooter for hardware devices:
- Press Windows + I to open Settings.
- Go to System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters.
- Scroll down to Hardware and Devices and run the troubleshooter.
Refer to this document: HP 17.3 inch Laptop PC 17-c0000 (2W0J9AV) User manual

I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
