Hi I have a Pavillion with a Windows 11 24H2 OS and my touchpad is consistently not working. I have done a hard reset, system update and also tried to update the drivers but there doesn’t seem to be one for the touchpad. I have looked for both mouse and other pointer devices and the touchpad within the HIDs and no luck. I cannot redownload the drivers from the HP website as they don’t have one for the relevant OS. Please help!!

@Ashley135, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand how frustrating it can be when your touchpad stops working, especially after trying all the usual steps. Let’s work through this together.
Check BIOS Settings
Sometimes the touchpad can be disabled at the BIOS level.
- Restart your laptop and press Esc repeatedly, then F10 to enter BIOS.
- Navigate to Advanced > Built-in Device Options.
- Ensure Touchpad is enabled.
- Save and exit.
Use HP Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI)
Let’s rule out hardware issues:
- Turn off the laptop.
- Press Esc repeatedly, then F2 to open HP PC Hardware Diagnostics.
- Select Component Tests > Input Devices > Touchpad Test.
- Follow the on-screen instructions.
Manually Install Generic Windows Precision Touchpad Driver
You can try installing the Microsoft Precision Touchpad driver:
- Open Device Manager.
- Right-click on HID-compliant touchpad (if visible) or Unknown device under HID.
- Choose Update driver > Browse my computer > Let me pick from a list.
- Select Human Interface Devices > Microsoft > HID-compliant touchpad or Microsoft Precision Touchpad.
- Click Next and install.
Use HP Support Assistant
Sometimes HP Support Assistant can detect and install missing drivers:
- Download or open HP Support Assistant: HP Support Assistant | HP® Support
- Run the tool and check for updates under My devices > Updates.
Check Windows Optional Updates
- Go to Settings > Windows Update > Advanced options > Optional updates.
- Look under Driver updates for any touchpad-related drivers.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
