Microsoft Windows 11

Hello, My touchpad has stopped working for sometimes now. Earlier when this issue was coming i used to uninstall i2c HID driver and then restart the PC and it start working for sometime but now it has failed completely. There is an error on i3c HID device error: "

This device cannot start. (Code 10)

A request for the HID descriptor failed.

"

I have already tried all the available solutions on internet that i could find. My OS is Windows 11 Home Single Language 24H2 and there is no driver available for it on HP site. Please suggest what to do now?

@Akshayg25, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

When encountering the "This device cannot start. (Code 10)" error, specifically "A request for the HID descriptor failed" related to the touchpad on your HP Pavilion x360 14 Convertible PC 14-dy1000, you can follow these troubleshooting steps to try and resolve the issue:

Update Drivers:

  • Go to HP’s support page for drivers.
  • Enter your product number "14-dy1000".
  • Download and install the latest touchpad drivers.
  • Update your BIOS if one is available as it can enhance hardware compatibility.

Device Manager Fix:

  • Open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start button and selecting it from the list.
  • Navigate to "Mice and other pointing devices" and locate the touchpad device.
  • Right-click and select "Uninstall device". Then, restart the laptop to allow Windows to reinstall the drivers automatically.

Check for Windows Updates:

  • Search for and open "Windows Update settings".
  • Install available updates as this might include device driver updates and system fixes.

Verify BIOS Settings:

  • Restart your laptop and open the BIOS setup. Usually involves pressing F2, F10, or DEL during startup.
  • Check if the touchpad is enabled in the BIOS settings.
