The touchpad of my x360 14-dh17010ng is not working in windows, but is working just fine in the UEFI BIOS and the Boot menu.
I have read the same issues in various forums.
In this HP forum but also with other manufacturers like Lenovo or Asus.
Without any working solution. So here is my issue with more details than the previous ones.
The touchpad stopped working completely a few weeks ago.
But the issue first started roughly 2 years ago.
At that time the touchpad ocasionally stopped working.
I could fix it by either touching the touchscreen of my Laptop a few times, or by deactivating/ deleting an I2C HID device in device manager.
A few weeks ago it stopped working completely.
The weird thing is that it is working just fine in the Bios and in the Boot menu.
Before trying to fix the issue I used Windows 11
These are the things I tried:
- I reinstalled windows 11 using a Windows installation Media usb stick.
- I performed a hard reset
- I tried deinstalling all Human interface devices in device manager
- I tried installing different drivers for the touchpad
- I performed 2 Bios updates
- I installed a linux distribution on a usb stick and used it on my laptop.
This showed the same issue.
All devices (Wifi, screen, etc) worked like normal, all but the touchpad.
During booting it showed an Error that the communication with the I2C device is not possible.
- The next thing I tried was buying a new touchpad module.
The part number was the same and as far as I could see it looked like an original HP Touchpad (stickers and high quality of the device)
The issue with the new touchpad was exactly the same.
With the new touchpad I used the HP cloud recovery to reset the Laptop
and to install Windows 10 (I am using this currently)
The last thing I tried was the software Driver Easy. But as well, without success.
I am out of ideas what I could do to fix the issue.
What wonders me is that the mouse works in the boot menu and in the bios all the time, even after rebooting and going into the Bios 5 consecutive times
So I would reckon the issue must be a driver issue? But as it didnt work with a linux USB stick as well, it is not a windows driver issue?
From the previuos attempts and errors I guess it is an issue around the I2C controller on the motherboard which connects the touchpad with the cpu.
What I am not sure about though, is if the issue is the physical chip or some driver.
If you think the physical chip itself is the issue, does someone know if it is possible to buy the chip so that I try to solder it on the motherboard by myself.
I have access to the equipment for that in Uni.
Obviously I would prefer another easier solution!
Here are two screenshots of my system:
