Hi @TanviKocharekar,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Here are some troubleshooting steps to help fix the touchpad issue on your HP laptop.

Enable Touchpad:

  • Make sure the touchpad is not disabled. Press the touchpad toggle key on your keyboard (usually, this is the F6, F7, or F9 key, but it varies by model) or check if there's a small button near the top of the touchpad itself.

Check Touchpad Settings:

  • Go to Settings > Devices > Touchpad.
  • Make sure the touchpad is enabled and the settings are configured properly.

Update or Reinstall Touchpad Driver:

  • Open Device Manager (right-click on the Start button and select Device Manager).
  • Expand the Mice and other pointing devices section.
  • Right-click on your touchpad device and select Update driver.
  • If updating doesn't work, right-click on the device again and select Uninstall device. Restart your laptop, and Windows should automatically reinstall the driver.

Check for Windows Updates:

  • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.
  • Check for updates and install any available updates.

Run Hardware Troubleshooter:

  • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot.
  • Select Additional troubleshooters and find the Hardware and Devices troubleshooter.

Check BIOS Settings:

  • Restart your laptop and enter the BIOS/UEFI settings (usually by pressing Esc, F2, F10, or Del during startup).
  • Check if the touchpad is enabled in the BIOS settings.

Perform a System Restore:

  • If the touchpad recently stopped working, you might be able to restore your system to a previous state when it was working.
  • Go to Control Panel > Recovery > Open System Restore and follow the prompts.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, there may be a hardware problem with the touchpad.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
