HP ENVY x360 15.6 inch 2-in-1 Laptop PC 15m-es1000 (446V8AV)

My Touchpad is stuck in drag mode. As and example

1. Open Notepad and type some text

2. Put one finger on the touchpad and move it over the text

3. The touchpad will select the text

I've done everything recommended in HP and 3rd party forums. Nothing suggested works.

This is clearly a common problem. HP please suggest a fix that works or offer me a free support call to fix this.

There are many laptop brands available and if I can't get this fixed I'll buy a new one by another vendor and will not buy an HP again.

Hi @BasicSystems,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're experiencing a frustrating issue with the touchpad on your HP ENVY x360 15.6 Inch 2-in-1 Laptop PC 15m-Es1000 (446V8AV), where it's stuck in drag mode. I understand how important it is to have a fully functioning laptop, especially for productivity and daily use. While I cannot directly offer HP support or guarantee a solution, I can provide some troubleshooting steps that might help resolve the issue if you haven't tried them already.

Update Touchpad Driver:

  • Open Device Manager by right-clicking on the Start button and selecting Device Manager.
  • Expand the "Mice and other pointing devices" section, right-click on your touchpad (it might be listed as Synaptics or ELAN touchpad), and select "Update driver".
  • Choose "Search automatically for updated driver software" and follow the prompts. If Windows doesn't find a new driver, you can try looking for one on the HP website.

Disable Touchpad Gestures:

  • Go to Settings > Devices > Touchpad.
  • Look for any settings related to gestures or drag and drop, and try disabling them.

Check Touchpad Settings in HP Control Center:

  • Some HP laptops come with a dedicated application (HP Control Center or HP Support Assistant) that allows for more granular control over hardware features.
  • Open the HP Control Center or HP Support Assistant and navigate to the touchpad settings to see if there are any specific settings that might be causing the issue.

Reset Touchpad Settings:

  • In the same touchpad settings area (either in Windows Settings or HP's software), look for an option to reset the touchpad to its default settings.

Check for Windows Updates:

  • Sometimes, issues can be resolved with a system update. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and check for any available updates.

Perform a System Restore:

  • If the issue started recently, performing a system restore to a point before the issue began might help. Go to Control Panel > Recovery > Open System Restore and follow the prompts to choose a restore point.  Click Here

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
