Main Symptom(s)

The issue is the click response. I'm constantly having to repeat clicks, or pressure click on the trackpad for ANY kind of response. This can make simple tasks like highlighting texts, drag and drops or scrolling bothersome.

I can move the cursor anywhere on screen just fine. It responds very well.

What I have done to do to try and resolve the issue.

I have downloaded and installed HP Support Assistant, carried out some diagnostics, No issue found. I have installed and updated some drivers. None at all to do with trackpad. Of course, the issue still persists. I was not unable to carry out site connection diagnostics. Error on the dialogue box were as follows.

Hello IHaveNoPrinter,

Thank you for posting your concern,

Troubleshooting Trackpad Issues on HP EliteBook 835 G7

If you are experiencing intermittent responses to clicks and tap gestures on your HP EliteBook 835 G7, you can try the following steps to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

  1. Update Touchpad Drivers:

    • Visit the HP Support website and enter your product details to find the latest drivers for your touchpad.
    • Ensure all drivers, especially the touchpad or mouse drivers, are up to date.
  2. Adjust Touchpad Sensitivity:

    • Go to Settings > Devices > Touchpad.
    • Under Touchpad sensitivity, choose a higher sensitivity setting to improve responsiveness.
  3. Check Touchpad Settings:

    • In the Settings > Devices > Touchpad, make sure that gestures are enabled.
    • Review other gestures like tap, scroll, and zoom to ensure they are set to your preference.
  4. Update BIOS and Firmware:

    • Sometimes, updating the BIOS and touchpad firmware can resolve hardware-related issues.
    • Navigate to the HP Support website to download and install any available BIOS updates.
  5. Disable and Re-enable the Touchpad:

    • Disable the touchpad by pressing the appropriate function key (often FN + F9) and then re-enable it. This can reset the touchpad functionality.
  6. Run Windows Troubleshooter:

    • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot.
    • Run the Hardware and Devices troubleshooter to detect and fix common touchpad problems.
  7. Clean the Touchpad Surface:

    • Make sure the touchpad surface is clean from dust and debris, which can interfere with touch sensitivity.

By following these steps, you should be able to address and potentially resolve the trackpad issues you are experiencing with your HP EliteBook 835 G7. If the problem persists, you may need to contact HP support for further assistance or consider servicing the device.
