Trying to factory reset/troubleshoot my laptop for school (it’s about a 9 year old laptop still works fine however it’s frozen trying to troubleshoot the drive after having everything else all set after troubleshooting

If the laptop is running slowly, then trying to reset it is the worst thing you can do -- as that will stress the drive and most likely cause the laptop to crash, rendering it useless. A reset is not the miracle cure everyone seems to think it is.
As to "troubleshooting" the drive, the way that is generally done is by running the HP diagnostics on it. Is that what you are trying to do?
