Hi @JJ352,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If you're encountering a "GPU initialization failed" error when trying to open DaVinci Resolve on your HP Notebook, it indicates that there's an issue with your graphics processing unit (GPU) not being recognized or properly utilized by the software. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue.
- Update GPU Drivers: Outdated or incompatible GPU drivers can lead to such errors. Visit the official website of your GPU manufacturer (e.g., NVIDIA, AMD, Intel) and download the latest drivers for your specific GPU model. Install them and restart your computer before trying to open DaVinci Resolve again.
- Minimum System Requirements: Ensure that your HP Notebook meets the minimum system requirements for DaVinci Resolve. This software demands a reasonably powerful GPU, so check if your notebook's GPU meets the requirements.
- Software Updates: Make sure you're using the latest version of DaVinci Resolve. Check the official Blackmagic Design website for updates and install any available patches or updates.
- Check GPU Compatibility: Verify that your GPU is on DaVinci Resolve's list of supported GPUs. If your GPU is not on the list, it might not be compatible with the software or its functionality could be limited.
- Disable Integrated Graphics: Some laptops have both integrated graphics (usually from Intel) and dedicated GPUs (NVIDIA or AMD). Make sure that DaVinci Resolve is set to use the dedicated GPU instead of integrated graphics. You can usually set this in your GPU control panel settings.
- Power Settings: Ensure that your laptop is set to use maximum performance mode and that it's not throttling the GPU performance due to power-saving settings.
- Clean Installation: If none of the above steps work, consider uninstalling and then reinstalling DaVinci Resolve. During the installation, make sure you're connected to the internet so that any necessary updates can be downloaded.
- Contact Support: If the issue persists, consider reaching out to DaVinci Resolve's technical support for further assistance. They might have specific solutions or insights based on your hardware and software configuration.
- Hardware Limitations: It's important to note that some laptops, especially budget or lower-end models, might not have GPUs that are powerful enough to run DaVinci Resolve smoothly or at all. In such cases, you might need to consider using a different software or upgrading your hardware.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
