OMEN by HP Laptop 15-ce0xx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello!

Recently my wife's employer has given her two ASUS monitors to help her gain more visibility whilst working from home. I've pulled up my wife's system info to help you help me 🙂

So I thought ok, sounds simply enough. However the laptop only has one HDMI slot, so I was like uh oh, however I did see she also has a Display port and I had a 4k DP to HDMI cable handy, great!

Worked for a few hours then the screen suddenly "lost power". I wiggled the wire, came back on, thought huh ok. Carried on. This happened a few times and then eventually it just gave up and didn't work again.

I tested both of the monitors separately on my wifes laptop and on my own laptop and they both worked just fine, so my only conclusions are:

Dodgy DP cable maybe?
Is this is not possible with the standard setup?
Not enough power perhaps?

Any tips/advice would be awesome. I myself I use a dock for my set up to support dual monitors etc, so if this can be resolved via the use of a dock or a similar product I'd be happy to hear recommendations too, but would like reasoning behind it not working so I understand basically 🙂

Thanks in advance

Firstly what is your OMEN by HP Laptop 15-ce0xx ? For example

                OMEN by HP - 15-ce080nd

It should have similar ports as the above machine

  • 1 USB 3.1 Type-C™ (Data Transfer up to 5 Gb/s, DP1.2, HP Sleep and Charge);
  • 3 USB 3.1 Gen 1 (1 HP Sleep and Charge);
  • 1 HDMI;
  • 1 RJ-45;
  • 1 headphone/microphone combo;
  • 1 microphone-in

You can use HDMI port for the first monitor and USB-C with adapter to DP port on the second monitor. For example

Regards.
