Turn off touchpad when USB mouse attached

I think HP made a change to firmware so touchpad can't be automatically disabled when USB mouse is attached. Anyone know of a hack or registry edit to get around their stupid change?

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you with the touchpad issue. 

Let's try these steps to re-install the touchpad driver -

1) Right click on the start or Windows icon and open the "Device Manager".
2) Expand the "Mice and other pointing devices".
3) Right click TouchPad and then click on uninstall and restart the computer. 
 

Download and install the Touchpad driver from here. Expand the option - "Driver-Keyboard, Mouse and Input Devices".

Also, try updating the computer - 

Step 1 Windows Updates -

1) In the search box, type and open Windows Updates.

2) Check for updates.

3) If the updates are available, click on install and restart the computer.

Step 2 HP Support Assistant Updates -

1) In the search box, type and open HP Support Assistant.

2) Check for updates.

3) If the updates are available, click on install and restart the computer.

To disable the touchpad when mouse is connected, try these steps -

1) Click on the Start or the Windows icon and open Settings.

2) Click on Devices. 

3) Click on Touchpad.

4) Un-check the option that says - "Leave touchpad on when mouse is connected".
