It sounds like your HP Pavilion dv6 is powering on but failing to display anything, which could indicate a hardware issue. Here are some steps to troubleshoot the problem:
Step 1: Perform a Hard Reset
- Turn off the laptop and unplug it from the power source.
- Remove the battery (if removable).
- Press and hold the Power button for 30 seconds to discharge residual power.
- Reconnect the battery and power cable, then turn the laptop on.
Step 2: Check RAM Modules
- Turn off the laptop and unplug it.
- Open the back panel and locate the RAM modules.
- Remove the RAM sticks and clean the contacts gently with a lint-free cloth.
- Reinsert the RAM sticks securely or try swapping their positions.
- If you have multiple RAM sticks, test the laptop with one stick at a time.
Step 3: Inspect the Display Cable
- If you’re comfortable opening the laptop, check the internal display cable connection.
- Ensure the cable is securely connected to the motherboard and the screen.
Step 4: Run Diagnostics
- Turn on the laptop and repeatedly press the Esc key to access the HP Startup Menu.
- Select Diagnostics (usually F2) and run a hardware test.
- If the diagnostics fail, note the error codes for further troubleshooting.
Step 5: External Display Test
Even though you don’t have an external monitor, borrowing one or using a TV with HDMI or VGA input could help determine if the issue is with the screen or the graphics card.
