I am attempting to update nav/audio system in my Kia Sorento.  They make it easy, as you can go to their site and download the update for free.   You download it to a mini SD card, and then swap the old one out and the new one in.  Got the update downloaded onto my HP 2000 notebook running Win10.  I inserted a brand new SD card and a message popped up that it was necessary that the card be formatted.  When I run the formatting program I get a message that the card cannot be formatted.  I have tried several different cards with the same result.

Is there some setting in the notebook that I need to change?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

There aren't any HP 2000 notebooks that were supported by HP for W10.

There are no settings to change.  The SD card reader automatically reads SD cards, and if it doesn't then there is either an issue with the hardware or the driver is outdated.

What is the full model number or product number of your notebook?

I will see if there is a W10 driver you can install for the Realtek SD card reader from a newer model notebook.

I will also need the hardware ID for the SD card reader.

Use this guide for how to find the hardware ID for a device:

Paul, thanks for taking time to respond to my question.   Two years ago I upgraded from Win 8 to Win 10 Pro using an aftermarket CD that I purchased on ebay.  At that time I also added more RAM.  Since Microsoft was no longer going to support Win 8, I was looking for an inexpensive way to get a few more years out of this notebook until next year when Win10 will no longer be supported.  I would not be surprised if perhaps a compatible driver was not included in the package.  All other functions work fine.

Here is the information about the notebook:

Device name Bobsnotebook
Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-2348M CPU @ 2.30GHz 2.30 GHz
Installed RAM 8.00 GB (7.89 GB usable)
Device ID 50D205B9-6D81-43B5-BDE9-3CFAB9E7A938
Product ID 00330-80000-00000-AA130
System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor
Pen and touch No pen or touch input is available for this display

Edition Windows 10 Pro
Version 22H2
Installed on ‎9/‎4/‎2022
OS build 19045.4894
Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.19060.1000.0

In Device Manager I can see "disc drives", which I presume is the hard drive.  I also see the "DVD/CD-ROM drives".  I do not see anything about an SD card reader.  What should I be looking for?

Thanks again for your time and help.

You're very welcome, Bob.

I believe that you have to insert a SD card in the slot for the card reader to show up.

Then there should be a new device manager category listed with that device.

See if this W10 driver gets the SD card reader to work properly.

Paul,

The W 10 driver did not work.  I do not see it in device manager, even with the SD card inserted in the card reader slot.  I still get the message that it must be formatted, and and when I try, it says that it could not complete the formatting.  I also got the following message:

Location is not available

F:\ is not accessible.

The volume does not contain a recognized file system.

Please make sure that all required file system drivers are loaded and that the volume is not corrupted.

Hi, Bob:

Sorry that the W10 driver didn't make a difference.

Unfortunately, I don't have any other suggestions for you to try.

Thanks anyway for your advice.  I will ask my son-in-law about it.  See if that M.S. in computer science he has is worth anything!
