HP Pavilion Dv6-7138us
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Hello!

I am running Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit (freshly installed) on my HP Pavilion Dv6-7138us (AMD A10-4600M, 6GB RAM).  I've just finished installing all updates to get it up to speed but it looks like the drivers for the laptop's USB 3.0 ports are not present/installed.  I am having a bit of a difficult time diagnosing the issue as nothing seems to be helping.  The view from Device Manager:

I assume the USB 3.0 ports are the USB controllers listed in "Other Devices."  When I try to update the drivers however I get this:

UnableToInstall.PNG

Per these instructions, I ran Microsoft USB Fix-It but the tool detected no issues:

Windows Update insists that there are no drivers to be updated.  The product page for this particular laptop on the HP site also does not list any USB drivers to be installed so I am at a loss.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you so much.

Hi:

Install the amd chipset drivers and restart the PC.

You want the W10/W7 chipset driver from the link below...2nd file on the page...

Hello again Paul.  That did it.  Thank you for your help.

By the way, how did you identify which chipset was needed?  I tried looking it up but didn't get very fair.  I even tried AMD's auto-detect software.

You're very welcome.

It used to be easy using the old AMD website.

It appears now that they changed the site, you would select any AMD 9, 8 or 7 chipset from the drop down menu, and it appears to me that the file is the same no matter which one you select.

Walking you out of the direct link to the driver, here is the drop down menu to select graphics or chipset.

https://www.amd.com/en/support

You just have to know to select chipset for the motherboard drivers.

Then the chipsets are arranged in order of age--newest first.

Each chipset driver lists the chipsets the driver is good for, and the first two do not list the chipset your notebook has.

So, it really doesn't matter which AMD 9, 8 or 7 chipset you select, the driver is the same for all of them.

As far as your notebook is concerned, the manual says it has an A70M chipset, which I assume is a 7.

So then I just selected any 7 chipset from the menu.

The graphics selection menu is easier to use.   You can select the exact graphics driver for the processor and graphics the PC comes with.

So with yours, based on the specs, you would select the Processors with Graphics item>AMD A-Series Processors>AMD A10 Series APU's for Laptops>A10 4600M with Radeon HD 7660G, and that is how you can find the latest graphics driver.

And then when you get comfortable navigating around the site, no doubt they will change it up again.
