HP 15-ba009dx
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Hi,

I recently purchased an HP 15-ba009dx notebook. It came pre-loaded with Windows 10. I successfully downgraded to Windows 7 Professional 64-bit to improve performance and for a better GUI.

I was able to get everything up and running with drivers I found via google searches (Since there are no Win7 drivers on the HP Support site).

The one exception is the two USB 3.0 ports on the computer. I've tried installing several different versions of the driver for the USB Controller, but none of them will run - get the message "This computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing the software."

Does anyone have a link to a good version of the USB Controller for Windows 7 for this model? The ports currently won't work at all.

Thanks in advance.

Hi, @Snowden2020

Try the HP USB driver from the Probook 455 g3 business notebook.  Install and restart the PC.

This package provides the AMD USB 3.0 Driver for supported computer models that are running a supported operating system.

http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp72501-73000/sp72680.exe

Your model is a 1st cousin to the HP 255 G5 business notebook (It shares the same service manual), which except for the chipset drivers, has full W7 driver support, so you may want to try the other drivers you need from that model.

Thanks for the response.

I already updated the chipset drivers via the AMD website, which should have had the USB 3.0 driver bundled with the SATA driver from what I've been reading elsewhere, unfortunately that wasn't the case. I've been looking all over for a standalone of the USB driver without success.

As to your unstated questions 🙂 - Anyone who thinks the newest OS is the best option for performance, isn't paying attention to how much more RAM and CPU usage each successive version of a program and operating system uses - simply because they can. And I'm sure it's not quite this bad anymore, but XP shipped with 60,000 *known bugs.

Newer is not always better. 🙂

The GUI however is simply a matter of preference.

Thanks! That did the trick, added the controller and ports working fine now.

Was already able to find Windows 7 versions of all the other drivers and get them installed, so good to go.

Have a great day.
