Pavilioh 15-n019wm Notebook
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)
My USB3.0 ports are not working, but my USB2.0 port is. I have power to the 3.0 ports - tested using a flash drive that lit up when inserted into the ports. I have tried unstalling all the devices listed in the Device Manager under USB controllers, and then restarting the computer. The first time I did the uninstall & restart, the AMD USB3.0 eXtensible Host Controller - 0100 (Microsoft) was replaced with USB xHCI Compliant Host Controller. Unfortunately, it still had the yellow triangle next to it, with a error code 10, device not starting. Hardware & Device Troubleshooter said to uninstall & reinstall, which I have done several times, Still the yellow triangle. I have attempted to find the chipset drivers for this device, but I couldn't find anything on the hp website listing a chipset driver for my device. I am a novice here, so any help would be appreciated, with appropriately dumbed down/step by step instructions. My 3.0 ports have worked in the past. I can't tell when they exactly stopped working or if it was tied to a Windows Update. I have run the Windows Update Troubleshooter, and whatever was fixed didn't address the port situation.

@JD019
Thank you for posting back.

Please follow these methods and check if it helps:

Method 1:
Check-in Windows updates if any driver updates are available.

To check for updates now, select the Start button, and then go to Settings  > Update & security  > Windows Update, and select Check for updates.

Install updates from HP Support Assistant: Go to Download HP Support Assistant to install the tool.

  1. To open HP Support Assistant, double-click the HP Support Assistant icon https://support.hp.com/doc-images/932/c05040382.jpg.
  2. Click My devices in the top menu, and then click Updates in the My PC or My notebook pane.
  3. Click Check for updates and messages to scan for new updates.
  4. Review the list of updates. Updates with a yellow information icon are recommended. Updates with a blue information icon are optional.
  5. Click the update name for a description, version number, and file size.
  6. Select the box next to any updates you want to install, and then click Download and install.

Method 2:
Update the driver from Device Manager and check the issue.

  1. Press Windows key +X, choose Device Manager.
  2. Find USB Root Hub, right-click and choose Update Driver Software and follow the onscreen instructions.

Note: If you've performed all relevant troubleshooting steps from the document: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c03327635 and if the issue persist then the computer needs to be serviced.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
