Hi @JoslynL,

Welcome to the HP Support Community

I understand you are facing an issue with your HP Chromebook 11 notebook, USB Flash Drive Issue. Not to worry I will help you to get a resolution to resolve the issue.

USB flash drives and just tested a few to verify that the latest Chrome OS has no issues.

Are you using some off-brand USB flash drives?

the data available in google drive is saved in the cloud so it will not be deleted

the USB drive he needs to try it on a different computer to check if its working and if he can see all the files

whatever data stored on the Chromebook will get deleted if we do an OS reload if the USB drive is working fine on other computers and not on Chromebook

so tell the cx to backup all the data and do an OS reload if the USB  drive is working on a different system

Chromebook will not delete any files stored on google drive or an external USB drive

Open, save, or delete files

You can open and save many types of files on your Chromebook, like documents, PDFs, images, and media. Learn which types of files are supported on your Chromebook.

Your Chromebook's hard drive has limited space, so your Chromebook will sometimes delete downloaded files to free up space. Learn how to store your downloads.

Tip: Some folders are read only. You can't delete or rename them from the Files app.
