Hello,
I've been using my HP Victus with Windows 11 for over two years without any issues. However, recently I've encountered a problem where any USB device I plug into any port disconnects and reconnects with the slightest movement. I've tried various solutions, including changing the power options, disabling the USB selective suspend setting, updating and uninstalling the drivers, and even updating the BIOS, but nothing has worked. If anyone has any ideas on how to fix the USB ports, please let me know.

Hi @Abderrahmen1,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The issue you're experiencing with USB devices disconnecting upon slight movement suggests that there may be a hardware-related problem. Here are several steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve this issue.
Check Physical Connections
- Inspect USB Ports: Use a flashlight to check if there is any physical damage, debris, or dust inside the USB ports. Clean them gently if needed.
- Test with Different Cables and Devices: Try different USB cables and devices to see if the problem persists. This helps rule out faulty cables or devices.
- Check for Loose Connections: Ensure that the USB ports are not loose. Wiggle the USB plug gently to see if it moves within the port.
Re-seat USB Ports
If you're comfortable opening up your laptop:
- Open the Laptop: Carefully open the laptop case following the manufacturer’s instructions.
- Inspect and Reseat Connections: Check the internal connections of the USB ports to the motherboard. If they appear loose, reseat them carefully.
Test on Another Operating System
- Boot from a Live USB: Create a bootable USB drive with a different operating system (e.g., Linux) and boot from it. Test the USB ports to see if the issue persists. This can help determine if it’s a hardware or software issue.
External USB Hub
- Use an External Powered USB Hub: Connect your USB devices through an externally powered USB hub. This can sometimes bypass issues with the laptop's internal USB power distribution.
Check for Driver and Firmware Updates
- Drivers: Ensure all USB drivers are up to date. You can also try rolling back to a previous driver version if the issue started after a recent update.
- Firmware: Sometimes USB controllers have their own firmware. Check if there are any updates available from HP.
Check Power Settings Again
- Disable USB Power Management: Go to Device Manager -> Universal Serial Bus controllers -> Right-click each USB Root Hub -> Properties -> Power Management -> Uncheck "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power".
Motherboard and Power Issues
- Motherboard Issues: If the USB ports are soldered onto the motherboard, there might be a problem with the motherboard itself.
- Power Supply Issues: Ensure your laptop’s power supply is stable and not causing fluctuations that might affect USB power.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
