I used HP Support Assistant v9 on my laptop. After half year successful using, drivers updating, the HPSA prompted me to reboot. This seemed normal. But after reboot prompted me to reboot again. I am getting prompted every hour to reboot from the HP Support Assistant. According Solved: HP Support Assistant constantly asking to reboot - HP Support Community - 7314658 I have uninstalled the Support Assistant since the prompts were too intrusive.

Now I am not able to install HPSA back anymore - I get the message: This version of HP Support Assistant appears to be incompatible with your operating system. You can download a legacy version of HP Support Assistant on out website.

I had version 9 installed and it worked without problems for half a year, the legacy version can't be installed at all and at the same time the HP detect product on the support pages stopped working for me too.

Thanks in advance for assistance.

Welcome to the HP Community --

The problem with four year old solutions might be that things have changed.

Too, what works for one situation might not work for another.

Dragon Note

In truth, I no longer use HPSA -- I currently have all business class systems -- I use HPIA (HP Image Assistant) when I wish to automate the driver update check / installation process.

I've used the HPSA in the past.

As a side note:  Your workstation supports using HP Image Assistant -- you need not even bother with HPSA.

Notes on HPIA have been included (later in this message in section References / Resources).  HPIA software is not "plug / play / forget" as might be the consumer grade HPSA -- HP Image Assistant is smarter, more flexible, and geared to your business class machine setup.

Start...

Open Category  Software and Drivers

Change to Latest supported version of Windows 10: Windows 10 version 22H2 (64-bit)

Open All Drivers

Open All

==============================

BIOS Update

If you have not done so,

Consider whether you wish to install the BIOS update:

HP BIOS and System Firmware (S92)

Dragon Opinion

Regardless of whether you ever get the HPSA to (re)install, it is perhaps best to always (and only) update the BIOS manually and on your own schedule.

Uninstall the HP Support Assistant from Settings > Apps > Apps and Features

Fast Start - Switch to OFF

Presumably, for those who are running Fast Start, switching off the feature might not be necessary in this instance.  Doing so is precautionary to make sure the workstation is not hanging onto any previous boot settings.

That said, if you don't have any inborn objections, switch OFF Fast Start for this exercise.

Dragon Note

Fast Start is convenient -- until it hangs on to something unexpected during the boot sequence.  Some of us don't use it and are content to let the system take the extra few seconds to boot from the onboard (on disk) Operating System.

Switch off / on Fast Start

Fast Start uses a "saved configuration" to more quickly start your computer.

This is great until / if "something" is saved that should have been discarded during the boot sequence.

Switching off the option forces the computer to boot from the Windows Operating System and File System on the disk.

Windows 10

Settings   > System > Power and Sleep > Additional Power Settings

Choose what the power buttons do

Click Change settings that are currently unavailable

Remove Check (clear box) Turn on fast startup (recommended)

Save Changes

Windows 11 or Windows 10

Control Panel > icon view > Power Options

Choose what the power buttons do

Click Change settings that are currently unavailable

Remove Check (clear box) Turn on fast startup (recommended)

Save Changes

Next,

Close programs (for example, browsers, games, email) and close any open windows

Next,

Windows key + X + A (opens Cmd prompt as Admin)

Next,

When the command window opens, type / paste the following command and hit Enter:

shutdown /s /t 0

  • Wait for the computer to shut down completely (a few seconds)
  • Boot the computer > Log in > Wait around for a couple of minutes (yes, wait, do not rush) >
  • Try shutting down the notebook from Windows key > Power

Optional

Switch ON the fast startup setting.

Dragon Note:

  • Business Notebooks > Fast Boot setup may be enabled / disabled in the BIOS

Shut down the workstation > Power on, immediately tap-tap-tap F10 to enter the BIOS >

Advanced > Boot Options >

Check / Uncheck Fast boot > Save and exit

OR

Elevated command prompt - run the following command:

REG ADD "HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Power" /V HiberbootEnabled /T REG_dWORD /D 0 /F

=============================================

Windows Updates

It is unlikely Windows 10 is dragging behind on updates - checking / running Windows Updates takes just a minute - If any updates are loaded, Restart the computer and log in

One thing you can do (if not already done) - set your Windows Updates to also install "other Microsoft software" along with the standard update set.

Settings > Windows Updates > Advanced

=============================================

After Windows Updates -- and "additional Microsoft software" are updated...

If you wish, try installing HP Support Assistant.

What else?

Because there are so few HP updates in category Software and Drivers, you could also consider manually updating any missing 2023 HP driver.
