OMEN by HP 16.1 inch Gaming Laptop PC 16-wf0000 (755G3AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

I bought a new Omen 16 with an Intel Core i7-13700hx and a RTX 4080 mobile in the expectation that I would be able to undervolt and overclock the CPU which was advertised as unlocked and overclockable. In the past I was able (the ability was available but not used) to overclock the CPU using the Intel XTU.

Now after past BIOS updates that feature is no longer available. I would like to either have this ability which I paid for be made available again (possibly with disclaimers alerting the user to its risks and possible repercussions such as voiding one's warranty) or have a BIOS version where this is possible available to be downgraded to.

Thanks in advance, Slope.

Hi @SlopeSlayer910,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you're experiencing an issue with overclocking your Intel Core i7-13700HX in your OMEN by HP 16.1 inch Gaming Laptop after recent BIOS updates. This can happen if a BIOS update locks out certain features like overclocking for stability or security reasons.

Here are a few steps you can consider to address this issue:

1. Check the Current BIOS Version

  • Confirm the BIOS version you currently have installed.
  • You can check this by typing msinfo32 in the Windows search bar and pressing Enter. Look for the BIOS Version/Date entry.
  • Compare this version with previous versions listed on the HP support page for your laptop model to see if there's an earlier version that had overclocking enabled.

2. Downgrade BIOS (If Possible)

  • Some systems allow you to downgrade to a previous BIOS version that had the features you want, but it's important to check with HP support first to avoid any unintended issues.
  • You can find older BIOS versions for your laptop on the HP driver page under the BIOS section. However, proceed with caution as downgrading the BIOS can sometimes void warranties or cause system instability.

3. OMEN Gaming Hub Features

  • Ensure that the OMEN Gaming Hub is up to date, as it often includes performance tuning features such as overclocking for supported CPUs and GPUs.
  • You may also find settings for performance adjustment here, though they might be limited compared to Intel XTU.

Thank you very much @Gaya1239 for the advice.

Having tried everything I am on the F22A revision of the bios intended for HX55 processors and am not able to downgrade the BIOS.
The BIOS is fully updated according to the latest on HP's website as is the OMEN Gaming Hub.
I am still not able to overclock. P1 and P2 power limits are adjustable but not the core ratio's
