Example: Pavilion g6
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

Our printer (HP Photosmart C3180) HAD BEEN listed as a printer on our system (and we had no problem printing from our laptop).  Then it disappeared and two other devices (HP ePrint  &  XPS Document Writer) mysteriously appeared on the list of printers.

We tried to download the Printer Driver from the HP website.  The C3100 series is now listed as a printer but when we try to print we get the message "Error printing on HP Photosmart C3100 series.  The printer couldn't print "file name".

After the driver installation attempt, we  keep getting a message from Microsoft in a black window:

"Exception occurred while initializing the installation: 'SytemBadImageFormatException: Could not load file or assembly 'file:///C:\Program Files <x86>\Hewlett-Packard\HPSupportSolutionsFrameworkService.exe' or one of its dependicies.  This assembly is built by a runtime newer than the currently loaded runtime and cannot be loaded.."

We use a wireless internet connection for the laptop and a wire connection between the laptop and printer when printing.

Welcome to the HP Support Community

Run HP Print and Scan Doctor to fix printing connectivity issue.

Click on this link: https://support.hp.com/in-en/topic/printscandoctor to download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor.

If the issue persists, I recommend you delete the driver at the root level and Install the drivers, follow the steps below:

Remove the USB if connected

1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features

2.) Select your HP Printer

3.) Select Uninstall

4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers

5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose `Delete' or `Remove Device'

6.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.

7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between "printui.exe" and "/s")

8.) Click on the "Drivers" tab

9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom

10.) Select Ok

11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows

12.) Close Devices and Printers

Then, Click on this link: https://support.hp.com/in-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-photosmart-c3100-all-in-one-printer-series/11465... to download and install the HP Photosmart C3100/C4100 All-in-One Printer series Full Feature Software and Driver.
