Microsoft Windows 11

hi there

my hp has developed this very annoying habit of reinstalling its apps and services  on my laptop . I have also noticed when you uninstall the apps it doesn't uninstall several services . I then go to the computer management services and disable the start up services as well as change the recovery action to take no action . In addition i have also removed these services with systnternals Autoruns but still it makes its way back . I have even caught microsoft sneaking the HP stuff onto my pc via the updates , i cant quite figure out why they would do that but they did . Im really not to happy with hp as here in south africa there is no hp support and when trying the live chat support with other countries chats  , they just refuse to help you . I also tried the contact details on the hp website , THe number provided doesnt exist I  even tried to use the website assistant thing , I somehow dont think i have to tell anyone how that went . If anyone has instructions to totally disable or preferably get rid of the hp software and services all together without flashing the bios or something overly extreme .  it would be much appreciated

Thank you kindly

Jenko

PS here are a few of the services im battling to permanently remove

  • HPDiagsCap
  • HPAppHelperCap
  • HPNetworkCap
  • HPSysInfoCap

Thanks once again

Hi @jenko69,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand how frustrating it can be to deal with persistent software that refuses to stay uninstalled. Here are several steps you can take to try to permanently remove the HP services and prevent them from reinstalling.

Uninstall HP Software Completely

Make sure you uninstall any HP software via the Control Panel:

  • Go to Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features.
  • Uninstall all HP-related software (e.g., HP Smart, HP Support Assistant, etc.).

Use a Dedicated Uninstaller

Consider using a third-party uninstaller like Revo Uninstaller or IObit Uninstaller. These programs often remove leftover files and registry entries that the standard uninstallation might miss.

Disable Automatic Updates

Prevent Windows from reinstalling the HP apps:

  • Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update > Advanced options.
  • Disable Receive updates for other Microsoft products.
  • You can also check for optional updates and hide those that pertain to HP.

Check Task Scheduler

Some services might be set to reinstall through Task Scheduler:

  • Search for Task Scheduler in the Start menu.
  • Look under Task Scheduler Library for any tasks related to HP and disable or delete them.

Remove Services via Command Prompt

You can try removing the specific services using the Command Prompt:

  1. Press Windows + X and select Windows Terminal (Admin) or Command Prompt (Admin).
  2. Run the following command for each service you want to remove:

sc delete "ServiceName"

  1. Replace "ServiceName" with the actual service name (e.g., HPDiagsCap).

Registry Editor

Editing the registry can help prevent these services from reinstalling:

  1. Press Windows + R, type regedit, and press Enter.
  2. Navigate to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services

  1. Locate the service names (e.g., HPDiagsCap, HPAppHelperCap, etc.) and delete the respective keys.

Group Policy Editor (Windows Pro and above)

If you're using Windows Pro, you can disable the installation of certain applications via Group Policy:

  1. Press Windows + R, type gpedit.msc, and press Enter.
  2. Navigate to:

Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Store

  1. Double-click on Turn off the Store application and set it to Enabled.

Check for HP Software Updates

Sometimes HP services may reinstall during driver updates. Make sure to:

  • Go to the HP support site and download drivers manually instead of allowing automatic updates.

Create a Script for Removal

If the services keep coming back, you might create a batch file to run the sc delete commands and schedule it to run periodically.

Consider a Clean Windows Installation

If all else fails, a clean installation of Windows might be necessary. Make sure to back up your data before proceeding.

By following these steps, you should be able to reduce or eliminate the reinstallation of HP services.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
