So my HP Pavilion laptop has been having some weird issue where I plug in my USB memory stick on the two left side ports and it doesn't read, but when I plug it into the port on the right side, it loads up. The two ports on the left side of the laptop have the letters "SS" on the usb logos, so I thought that it would be automatically downloaded by uninstalling a driver called "Super Speed Hub" or something like that. Can anyone help me figure out how to fix the usb ports on the side as well as getting back that specific driver? I've already tried HP Recovery Manager and it didn't seem to recover the driver that I uninstalled.

Thank you for joining HP Forums.
I'll be glad to help you 🙂
As I understand you need the USB driver,
Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:
Is there anything specific that you need to connect to the USB and it doesn't work?
Do you have any error message?
While you respond to that, here's what you need to do:
Please update the BIOS & Chip-set drivers from the HP website: Click here to find and install the same.
Perform the following steps, as applicable, to troubleshoot USB devices that are not working correctly:
-
Power: If the USB device operates on battery power, make sure the batteries are correctly seated and are functional. If the USB device operates on external power, make sure all the power connections are secure and the power cord is connected to a power source.
-
Test the USB connection: Sometimes, simply disconnecting and reconnecting the USB device to the computer can solve the problem:
-
Disconnect all USB devices from the computer except a USB mouse and keyboard (if in use). This includes hubs, thumb drives, printers, and cameras.
-
With all USB devices disconnected, do one of the following:
-
If you have a desktop computer, connect the device that is not working correctly to one of the USB ports on the back of the computer (the ports attached directly to the motherboard).
-
If you have a notebook computer, connect the device that is not working correctly to a USB port on the notebook. Do not use a USB port replicator (such as a docking station or USB hub).
-
What happens when the device is connected?
-
The device works correctly: The problem is most likely related to power or poor overall system performance.
NOTE:
To prevent the USB device from failing in the future: Do not connect too many devices to the computer; wait 5 seconds after connecting a device before using it; use powered hubs to connect other devices; and do not attach USB devices when the system is busy (running slower than normal).
-
The device does not work: Leave the device connected and continue to the next step.
-
-
Installing USB manufacturer software: Some USB devices require manufacturer software be installed before the USB device will work.
-
If the USB device came with software, and it was not previously installed, install the software now, following the manufacturer instructions.
-
After installing manufacturer software, reconnect the USB device that was having problems.
The device should now work correctly. If problems persist, continue to the next step.

I still cannot understand what this does. The specific driver that I uninstalled was called Generic Speed Hub but I don't know what drive it's for. It might be a case where the USB is too new for the USB hub, because I can plug in my phone into both of the USB ports and they both detect it.

Thank you for replying with this detailed response 😉
I appreciate your time and efforts,
The steps are intended to identify the issue,
However, considering the recent information about your phone working on USB ports,
I'll need more details on what exactly the issue is with, as it most definitely not the USB port.

followed by clicking on 'Accepted as Solution' as it would help the community gain more knowledge,

The issue was with my USB stick not reading on both of the left USB ports and only working on the USB on the right side of my laptop. I don't know if that's a driver issue, so when I tried to fix it, I accidentally removed a driver that I think was called USB Multi-hub. or something along those lines. Sorry for the late reply, I've been bogged down with school and my laptop isn't my primary computer anymore.
