I got an update message from Windows and authorized the install but then got this message:
"Feature update to Windows 10, version 1703. We found some issues. Select this message to fix and finish updating."
So I clicked on the Fix Issues button. The computer tried to Prepare for the Update but got only 23% of the way through and I got this message:
"Some apps need to be uninstalled--HP Pavilion Notebook--BIOS needs to be upgraded before you can upgrade to Windows 10:"
So I clicked on the "Uninstall" button and got this message:
"We couldn't uninstall these apps. You'll need to remove these apps yourself and then select Refresh"
I also checked this HP support section: "HP Products Tested with Windows 10." where it states that "The information below lists HP products that have been tested with Windows 10 Creators Update." The Pavilion is listed so it seems that the Windows update should work, right? (Although I don't know my exact model of Pavilion; the Support Asst. just says "HP Pavilion Notebook, Product # N5R26UA#ABA.)
I am reluctant to uninstall the BIOS for fear of ruining the whole computer. Any ideas for what I should do?

THanks so much for the confirmation. I will go ahead and update BIOS. I was just nervous because of the ominous warnings in the section you linked to, e.g., "However, if an incorrect update is installed or if the update process is interrupted, the motherboard can be permanently damaged, leaving the computer unable to boot. It is recommended to update your BIOS only if one or more of the following conditions apply:" So I will be careful--if you have any other suggestions before I take the leap, please do let me know! I'll do tomorrow.
