Hey everyone,

I ran into an issue while upgrading my PC to Windows 10 and it said that i have to uninstall HP Protect Tool which is also linked to 6 other products and i have to delete/uninstall all of them.

What should i do and is it safe to uninstall it?

Can i redownload it after I upgrade to Windows 10 because I liked the face recognition software.

Hello,

Thank you for posting in the HP Support forum. Welcome onboard !

Yes, you need to decrypt your hard disk drive and you need to uninstall security software like HP Protect tools.

Actually, Protect tools is old version. Latest version of the same software is called HP Client Security Manager.

HP Client Security Manager (Protect tools) is just the "control center" of many other apps.

You need to uninstall them all, finally Protect tools, restart the computer.

So, please start the computer and login to Windows.

Do not attempt to remove the software unless you are sure you can successfully bypass the login screen and boot to Windows desktop.

You need to open your HP Client Security Manager / Protect tools.

Authenticate with Windows password or another option.

- First, if available in your version and if enabled from you - go to Drive Encryption and make sure you DISABLE hard disk drive encryption so that disk gets decerypted. This may take a while (hour or more to complete).

Reboot/restart the computer

- Second, if available in your version and if enabled from you, go to Credentials - the Fingerprints section and remove the data

You can see how by these screenshots I created (by these are for the latest version, not for Protect tools) >>  https://onedrive.live.com/redir?resid=73EA0FA259008E8!107&authkey=!AEyZq_GEDdnNQnE&ithint=folder%2c

When ready, you can attempt to uninstall them all and restart the computer eventually.

Finally, you can proceed to the upgrade to Windows 10 . Here are some important tips and tricks >> http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c04730900

I am afraid HP Protect tools and HP Client security Manager are not compatible with Windows 10, not officially.

Based on the information >here<, officially supported are Win 7 and Win 8.

Windows Hello is facial recognition feature available in Windows 10 for free >> http://www.windowscentral.com/how-set-windows-hello-facial-recognition-windows-10

Drive encryption (Bitlocker) may also be available depending on the edition of your Windows.

Let me know if this works for you. Please, provide feedback.

I've got two software when i search for Hp ProtectTools:

- HP ProtectTool Security Manager
- HP ProtectTool Administrative Console

which should i uninstall or should i uninstall both?

Another question: What about the 6 other products which is linked?

The 6 linked products:
1) File Sanitizer

2) Facial Recognition

3) Privacy Manager

4) Drive Encryption

5) Theft Recovery

6) HP ProtectTool Device Access Manager

HP Recommended

You need to uninstall the both - you can look for the products (they are not all called HP Protect tools) - you can search for them in Control Panel >> Programs and features

- You need to remove them all - HP Protect tools are last

@BCYTECH

Hey - Good news  🙂

It just came to my attention that HP Client Security Manager and drive encryption are indeed Windows 10 compatible with their latest versions. You can re-install them with latest versions post-upgrade

Hi @BCYTECH

With regards to your question :

May i know why is there an error message when i try to uninstall the Drive Encryption for HP ProtectTool...

The error message said that if i should back up my certificates first before i continue and i think that its too risky.
Is it safe to continue on?

Drive encryption is not the same as Privacy Manager - the error message...

If you never used Privacy Manager from HP to protect your communications, then it is safe to continue uninstalling it.
