HP Touchsmart 15-r017dx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My current laptop (HP Touchsmart 15-r017dx) has an intel i3 core processor which is far too slow for what I'm using it for. I was trying to look up whether it had a soldered motherboard or not to see if it was worth upgrading or if I should just go out and buy a new laptop. I don't know if I'm looking in the wrong places or not, but I can't seem to find this information. I'd greatly appreciate anyone who can help me figure this out.

Hi,

Your machine surrently has 1.7GHz 4th generation Intel Core i3-4010U Processor with  Intel HD graphics 4400, touchscreen and Windows 8.1 (64-bit) pre-installed

     http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-15-r000-Notebook-PC-series/6875200/model/7174332/document/c04...

motherboard part number is  759875-501.

Now if you wish to change to other CPU alone you need a different motherboard for example

● Intel Core i3-5005U processor and 2 GB of discrete graphics 790670-xxx
● Intel Core i5-4210U processor and UMA graphics 760968-xxx
● Intel Core i5-4210U processor and 1 GB of discrete graphics 788291-xxx
● Intel Core i5-4210U processor and 2 GB of discrete graphics 760970-xxx
● Intel Core i7-4510U processor and UMA graphics 784567-xxx
● Intel Core i7-4510U processor and 2 GB of discrete graphics 792302-xxx
● Intel Core i5-5200U processor and 1 GB of discrete graphics 790671-xxx
● Intel Core i5-5200U processor and 2 GB of discrete graphics 790669-xxx
● Intel Core i7-5500U processor and UMA graphics 795815-xxx
● Intel Core i7-5500U processor and 2 GB of discrete graphics 795814-xxx

xxx is 501 for Windows 8.1 standard.

Looks like this is a very expensive upgrade because you have to change motherboard too.

Regards.
