HP 15.6 inch Laptop PC 15-d5000 (4V9Y1AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Hello,
I bought this HP laptop about a year ago. It has been going great. Recently I got a new laptop, so my dad has decided that he wants to use this laptop and I take the new one. But this laptop came with MS Office H&S 2021 and I logged into it with my account. The new laptop also has H&S for free. So is it possible for me to Factory Reset this laptop and log into the other laptop's MS Office and for my dad to use this MS office copy with his account?

Hi @TheF1Racer,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Yes, you can factory reset your old laptop and transfer the Microsoft Office Home and Student (H&S) 2021 license to the new laptop, but there are a few steps and considerations to ensure that everything is set up correctly:

1. Transfer Microsoft Office Home and Student (H&S) 2021 License

Check License Terms:

  • The Office H&S 2021 license is typically associated with the device it was originally installed on. It is often a one-time purchase and may be linked to your Microsoft account rather than transferable between devices.
  • Check the specific terms of the license included with your laptop. Sometimes licenses are tied to the hardware and not easily transferable.

Uninstall Office from Old Laptop:

Open Settings:

  • Go to Settings > Apps > Apps & features.

Find Microsoft Office:

  • Locate Microsoft Office Home and Student 2021 in the list.

Uninstall Office:

  • Click on Microsoft Office Home and Student 2021 and select Uninstall. Follow the prompts to complete the uninstallation.

Reinstall Office on New Laptop:

Sign In with Your Microsoft Account:

  • Go to the Microsoft Office website and sign in with your Microsoft account (the one associated with the Office license).

Install Office:

  • From your account dashboard, you should be able to see the Office license associated with your account. Click on Install Office to download and install it on your new laptop.

2. Factory Reset Old Laptop

Backup Important Data:

  • Before performing a factory reset, ensure that you have backed up all important files and data from your old laptop. A factory reset will erase all data on the device.

Perform Factory Reset:

Open Settings:

  • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Recovery.

Start Reset Process:

  • Under Reset this PC, select Get started.

Choose Option:

  • Select Remove everything to perform a full factory reset. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the process

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
