I recently bought an Envy X360 16-ac00000, as an upgrade for my Envy 17m. I do a lot of video editing in Adobe Premiere Pro, and unfortunately on the X360 the playback during editing is very glitchy and uneven. I bought the 360 because it seemed to be an upgrade from the Envy 17m.
I'ver watched a bunch of tutorials about how to make Adobe Premiere perform better, and have made some changes to the settings, but the playback glitchyness has only partially improved.
is my graphics processor not correct for this app?

Hi @Robbovius,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand the HP Envy X360 16-ac0000 2-in-1 laptop is a capable machine, but performance in Adobe Premiere Pro can be influenced by several factors. Let's address potential issues and optimizations:
Specifications Check
First, let's verify the key specifications of your HP Envy X360 16-ac0000. The most relevant specs for video editing are:
- Processor (CPU): Ensure you have a powerful CPU, preferably an Intel Core i7 or AMD Ryzen 7 series.
- Memory (RAM): At least 16GB of RAM is recommended for video editing.
- Graphics Processor (GPU): A dedicated GPU like NVIDIA GeForce or AMD Radeon is preferred for better performance in Adobe Premiere Pro.
- Storage: An SSD is crucial for faster read/write speeds.
Common Bottlenecks and Solutions
Check GPU Utilization:
- Premiere Pro heavily relies on GPU acceleration for playback and rendering.
- Make sure your project settings and Premiere Pro preferences are set to use GPU acceleration (CUDA for NVIDIA or OpenCL for AMD).
Optimize Playback Settings:
- Lower the playback resolution to 1/2 or 1/4 to reduce the load during editing.
- Enable “High-Quality Playback” only if necessary.
Update Drivers:
- Ensure that both your GPU drivers and Premiere Pro are up to date. Manufacturers often release updates to improve performance.
Use Proxies:
- Use lower-resolution proxies for smoother editing. Premiere Pro allows you to generate proxies that can be switched back to the original high-resolution files for final output.
Optimize Memory Usage:
- Increase the memory allocated to Premiere Pro in the Memory preferences.
- Close other applications that might be using significant memory or CPU resources.
Storage Performance:
- Make sure your media files are stored on an SSD, not an HDD.
- Use fast external drives if necessary, ensuring they are connected via USB 3.0 or Thunderbolt.
Steps to Improve Performance
Enable GPU Acceleration:
- Go to File > Project Settings > General and set the Renderer to Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration.
Adjust Playback Resolution:
- Change the playback resolution from Full to 1/2 or 1/4.
Create Proxies:
- Go to File > Project Settings > Ingest Settings and check Ingest.
- Click on the wrench icon next to Ingest and set up the proxy settings.
Update Premiere Pro and GPU Drivers:
- Download the latest version of Adobe Premiere Pro from the Adobe Creative Cloud.
- Update your GPU drivers from the NVIDIA or AMD website.
Allocate More Memory to Premiere Pro:
- Go to Edit > Preferences > Memory and adjust the RAM reserved for other applications.
Optimize Storage:
- Ensure your footage and project files are on an SSD.
